It feels weird to write, but I think I’ve written as many novels as I have short stories. As I’ve finished a second draft, I’ve enjoyed the process. Editing is admittedly a weak part of my writing skill. I think it’s easy to spend so much time on a piece that I become blind to it. Short stories have special problems that I’m getting used to.
The biggest challenge is probably AI. This is a big fear of mine as I look to getting this published. Publishers are rightfully wary about acquiring short stories written by AI. Short stories are especially difficult to tell authorship on because the machine doesn’t have the chance to go of the rails the way it does with a full novel. I don’t use AI and never have, but my story needs to have my voice or it will be tossed out without a second consideration.
It’s a weird age to live in. A time when people are being told they can just tell a machine to express themselves.
I have a list of places to query the story to. Once I get feedback and make a third draft, I will get on it.
Thanks for reading,
Michael
