The Ring of Dain Thar Duin

Fate,

the far-sighted Daughter of Time, Life-weaver,

chose Malach son of Mathred as High Teloch,

King beyond Kings, Earl of the Iolish, Cheiftain,

renowned in all time as the first of the Ring-Wearers

Thus begins the Ring of Dain Thar Duin, the epic poem which recounts the turbulent years on Ioland following the forging of the Ring. A multi-generational saga, the cycle tells the story of a people struggling to keep their island falling apart under the weight of three curses placed upon the High Teloch’s Ring. Throughout the epic characters come and go, battles are won and lost, all as a storm threatens to drown the isle.

The Ring of Dain Thar Duin is the central epic of Iolish mythology, the longest story of the High King Cycle. It follows Iolish heroes as they try to return the Ring to the missing bloodline of the High Teloch in order to stop the curses which bring so much death to their people. The great warrior Ceallach, the tricking Otter and singing Sparrow, the boy Aethelwald, these names are instantly recognizable to the Iolish today.

Split into twenty books, each of which tells its own episodic piece of the grand epic, the Ring of Dain Thar Duin tells a story of perseverance, loyalty, tragedy, triumph, faith, and war. Painstakingly translated from Old Iolish for modern audiences, the Ring of Dain Thar Duin offers a window into a world long gone by, one which should be remembered.
